Deirdre

The Mystic Knight of Air

Princess Deirdre is the 18-year-old heir to the throne of Kells and the only child of King Conchobar. She was raised to one day rule Kells through wisdom and leadership, but was also reluctantly made to learn lessons befitting a lady, like playing the harp. Regardless, she's kept her interest in the art of battle alive, and insists on defending Kells against her father's wishes to keep her safe. When Rohan proposes finding Draganta, she volunteers, and sneaks off to follow when her father forbids it.

To the public, Deirdre is known for her beauty and kindness. While true, she's better known among her friends and family as being quick to retaliate when patronized, questioned, or underestimated as a warrior. Her best intentions for approaching matters with grace can therefore be shattered by suggesting she isn't fit to handle them alone. This stretches to the typical courtesies for any princess, as she'll ignore and scold others for offering their hand if it implies she 'needs' their help.

Deirdre starts as curt, condescending, impatient, and unimpressed with entrusting the safety of Kells to Rohan. She's unimpressed again when Rohan is revealed to be the legendary warrior Draganta. Despite the friendship (and budding romance) they develop, she doesn't hesitate to voice her concerns at his - or any of her friends' - shortcomings. Even after learning to trust the others and revealing a more playful (and less regal) side, her priority is Kells, and her impatience will return if Kells is threatened.

Though she's confident as a princess, Deirdre's often unsure she'll be wise and capable enough as Kells' queen. Not only is this used to bait her into poor decisions, but she's used it herself to justify certain plans (e.g. scheming to use Angus' wish to gain wisdom and experience as a leader). Her narrow focus on end results leads her to neglect the protests from others, exacerbating her frustration when they refuse to behave as she expects.

Deirdre is the Mystic Knight of Air. With her Whirlwind Crossbow, she can shoot discs of swirling wind to knock her targets off their feet. She earned this weapon from King Fin Varra by demonstrating the noble trait of unselfishness. She can summon her armour by shouting, "Air above me," which she obtained by defeating Sonarus Skye, the Lightning Bat of Temra, at the mountains to the east.
