Ivar
The Mystic Knight of Water
Prince Ivar arrives from an unnamed land across the sea, seeking to hunt a thief that’s stolen his kingdom’s sacred, silver chalice. In a dream, Rohan is told Ivar will lead them to Tir Na Nog. In reality, he meets Rohan and Angus by catching them in a trap he’s set for this thief, and only frees them to antagonize them further. After losing the skirmish, he agrees to a trade: he’ll lead them to the ring of fairy stones they’re after, but only if they lead him to the thief he seeks.
At first, Ivar appears hostile, proud, and unwilling to work with the others. After Rohan saves his life in Tir Na Nog, however, earning Ivar's trust and an oath to bring peace to Kells, he joins the team as a cunning diplomat, skilled tracker, and highly-educated royal. Later on, King Conchobar himself entrusts Ivar to lead diplomatic missions on the kingdom's behalf, and to even intervene in personal matters, like Deirdre's refusal to marry Garrett.
Ivar’s respect for tradition and duty sets him apart from the others. Despite voicing displeasure for some of his responsibilities, he typically adheres to his role as a prince above all else. He is also framed as the most mature of the group, frequently serving as their voice of reason. This is in contrast with how often he’s roped into squabbles, or takes a gamble on high-risk, high-reward manoeuvres. His unique mix of level-headedness and daredevilry make him an impressive warrior, and one who welcomes a fight – whether for honour or especially for fun.
More than anything, Ivar is defined by his quest for his kingdom's silver chalice. He feels personally responsible for failing to prevent its theft, and will not return to his home without getting it back. Occasionally, this puts him at odds with the others; at several points in the show, he’s broken away from the group to seek the chalice on his own, or tried to convince the others to put his chalice’s return above their own goals.
Ivar is the Mystic Knight of Water. He wields his mystic Barbed Trident to great effect, especially its electric bolts, and earned this weapon from King Fin Varra by demonstrating an act of loyalty. By shouting, “Water around me,” he can summon his Mystic Armour, which he earned at the shores to the south by defeating Forgal Mac Roig, the Sea Serpent of Temra.
