Rohan
The Mystic Knight of Fire
Rohan begins the show as a druid's apprentice (of debatable competence), but largely only in name. As an orphan raised by Cathbad, his real goals are to one day be a mighty warrior, learn about his family, and discover his destiny that a birthmark on his arm promises will be of great importance. He rushes to meet all three when Kells is on the brink of surrendering to Temra. After demanding Conchobar wait until Rohan had found and brought back the warrior Draganta, he recruits Angus and sets off for Tir Na Nog.
His confidence and optimism in his swordsmanship are one of his greatest strengths in battle. He's enthusiastically demonstrated his talent as a warrior since childhood, and is frequently able to prove himself as a leader to others. His struggle with arrogance and impatience, however, coupled with a highly trusting nature, often leads to him underestimating threats, dismissing others' advice, and falling into a variety traps. His low confidence in himself as a person has also led to arguments within the team, and an ongoing doubt that he's worthy enough to be a warrior of legend.
While growing up in Kells' castle, he learned how to address royalty, and stands in stark comparison to Angus' bad manners. Rohan is humble and dedicated to the crown, including to Deirdre as Kells' princess, and has repeatedly elbowed and punched others for their comparative disrespect. Quick as he is to apologize for his own missteps, his short temper and strong will leave him with a number of missteps to apologize for. He dwells on these and on other failures for not preventing them.
Rohan puts a special emphasis on the importance of family. This is used against him in a later arc, when he refuses to fight an incredible threat terrorizing Kells: his half-brother Lugad. His confidence also plummets when he learns Maeve is his mother, to the point of running from Kells for a while in shame. But in a close second is his emphasis on friendship. He'll take drastic action to help them, and speaks highly of them and their strengths to others - particularly Angus. Unfortunately, a recurring plot is the trouble that comes from his friends feeling overlooked, which aligns with how he often jokes about their misfortunes and mistakes when speaking to them directly - particularly Angus.
Rohan is the Mystic Knight of Fire, and is revealed early on in the show to also be the legendary warrior Draganta. He wields the Sword of Kells and its magical fire at an unparalleled proficiency, and is shown actively seeking new ways to use it in and out of battle (e.g. aiding his village's blacksmith). Although he's had his sword for seemingly his whole life, he earns Fin Varra transforming it into its mystical form by demonstrating an act of courage. By shouting, "Fire within me," he can summon the armour he earned at the caves to the north from defeating Rath Coghan, the Ice Lord of Temra.
He can also summon Pyre, the Dragon of Dare, by holding his Dragon's Breath Dagger to the sky. Each Mystic Knight has their own dagger, and at least one has summoned Pyre without Rohan's involvement (Angus even flying alone on Pyre briefly), but Rohan is the only one in the show seen using it, and is the dragon's master as the one who tamed him.
