My Real Questions
Okay - haha, we've all had our fun wondering about the production of the show. But if I'm being honest, based on my recent discoveries, I don't really care about those questions anymore.
(Except for the ones for Vincent Walsh - you get back here and you answer these and then you LEAVE AGAIN.)
If I ever get to a place where I can interview the actors, especially Lochlann O'Mearain and Eric O'Cuinn (who I never expected to single out on anything), these are going to be the questions that I ask them. Not, "Hey, what was it like working on the show?" Just, "Hey, so about that convention-"
The Softball Q's
Question 1:
For everybody, but probably Lochlann O'Mearáin the most:
Hey, so about that convention - was that real?!
"Mystic Knights 2000." By Lissia. Planned for August 5th and 6th, but died a month before the finish line in July of our lord Y2K. I'm gonna adjust my horror accordingly based on whatever you say, 'cause there are no reassuring answers here: 'Yes,' 'No,' and 'Never heard of it' are all uniquely concerning - and hilarious.
Question 2:
For Justin Pierre:
I'm gonna get this out of the way in case he said, "Never heard of it," and wants to leave.
How's it feel being the only one of the Mystic Knights to not have their birthday posted anywhere?
I wasn't actively looking, so don't give me a look, but while I was searching for character bios and episode summaries, I'd occasionally trip over the other four's birthdays (you know - those standard 'About the Actor' pages). I also saw they'd get slightly different dates of birth depending on the site, so it wasn't like they were all pulling from a single source. But you! You've been a big ol' question mark every time they got to listing your birthday. Not even a fake one. It's been over 25 years, man - congrats!
Question 3:
For Justin Pierre and Lisa Dwan:
Getting this out of the way in case Question 1 was, "Yes."
How in the hell did you two not get involved in that?
They got to Gerry O'Brien and Ned Dennehy - still major members of the cast, but outside of the core cast. So there's no way they skipped trying to contact two of the five Mystic Knights.
Really, I should just be directing this question to Lisa Dwan. Justin Pierre's been apparently hiding from everybody (please refer to Question 2) like a king, so let me rephrase this: Ms. Dwan, whose birthday has been found on the internet, how did they not get in touch with you? They got the other three. Did your agent politely decline, did you not hear about it until after...? No wrong answers - you and Justin Pierre were simply never mentioned during the newsletter saga. That was surprising to me.
Question 4:
For Lochlann O'Mearáin and Vincent Walsh:
This is in case the answer to Question 1 was, "No."
Okay, but when you were filming Episode 1 and they had to dangle you in the air, did they leave you hanging there for four hours?
... 'Cause I feel like they weren't supposed to...
But - y'know. Saban Entertainment. It's 50/50.
And to prove my point, I was gonna say, "Even if it was a union job," but now that I'm thinking about it... maybe it's 50/50 on whether it was a union job, too. I know Power Rangers wasn't union, which is why they always cast fresh actors, but some of you people had credits walking into this. So maybe that related to filming this in Ireland: pitch a show set in a country with different union rules? But is SAG not over there? I'm googling it.
Ooh - new possibility on why Vincent Walsh left: hit the max number of non-union jobs while being union. I kinda forget how it works (was it 'three union roles made you union too,' or 'you can do three non-union roles as union'), but I could live with that as the answer. And it kinda looks like SAG actually wasn't in Ireland, so maybe everyone was exempt, but it still screwed with SAG rules somehow anyway. I'm googling it - lemme count the named credits he had before Mystic Knights started.
(AW GODDAMMIT HE IS FRENCH. NO MORE GOOGLING THESE PEOPLE. TOO MANY HABS FANS.)
Question 5:
For everybody, but probably Eric O'Cuinn the most:
If the answer to Question 1 was, "No":
... like, thoughts?
That's it. That's the question. I don't know what the beef with Eric O'Cuinn was, but if you have any theories, I would love to hear them.
The Hardball Q's
The assumption moving forward is that yes, this whole thing was real. If it's not, then this'll conclude our interview. Thank you uwu
(POUR LES HABS FANS PARMI LES ACTEURS, ÇA VA DIRE 'MERCI')
Question 6:
For Eric O'Cuinn:
When the newsletters mention leaving you voicemails, are we talking 'your personal home phone' or 'left a message with your agent'?
Question 7:
For Eric O'Cuinn:
When you got the final letter - the 'not so nice' one - was it an email, or was this an actual, physical letter that got mailed to you?
You might not think that matters, but there is a world of difference between "clicking 'Forward' to send it to your agent" and "scanning a physical sheet(s?!!) of paper to add it as an attachment." One is so much funnier, and also more horrifying to get.
Also - do you still have it? I'm not even asking to see it (but i sure would like to); I only want to know if you threw it out immediately or kept it as a souvenir or something.
Question 8:
For everybody, but especially Gerry O'Brien and Ned Dennehy:
Who else got to read this letter - the one I mentioned in Question 7?
I'm convinced (well, speculating) that at least Lochlann O'Mearain and Vincent Walsh read it, which I'll get to in Question 9, but apparently Mr. O'Mearain was keeping "everybody updated" on the convention. So who else got an update?
Question 9:
For Lochlann O'Mearáin and Vincent Walsh:
So the order of events was, "Eric O'Cuinn doesn't answser the fan club's questions, the fan club president sends a letter sounding pissed off by that, and then the next time she calls Lochlann O'Mearain to give an update on how things are going, Vincent Walsh just happens to also be there. My question is:
Was it actually a coincidence, or did Vincent Walsh hear about an upcoming phone call and go, "I am ABSOLUTELY joining in on that"?
'Cause she seemed to think it was planned (affectionate), and I kinda thought it was planned (sneaky gossip girl).
That's just me, I'm probably projecting - but that'd be the first thing that comes to my mind after I got caught up on all of this.
Question 10:
For Gerry O'Brien and Ned Dennehy:
You weren't announced as attenting until two-ish months before the convention was supposed to happen, so did you know any of this was going on?
Because there's "Haha what an interesting thing that's happening," and there's, "I am not dealing with whatever the twenty-something-year-olds got into." But both of those would mean you heard something was amiss.
Question 11:
For Lochlann O'Mearáin:
The newsletters said you and Eric O'Cuinn were going to show three members of the fan club around Dublin.
Did you not think they were gonna fly over, or were you just feeling super good about your odds on serial killers?
And at any point, did you feel like those odds had changed?
I don't get it - one of you's having weekly Skype calls with the president, another one's handing out his home address for personalized hatemail, and now you're both inviting everybody to come on down to Ireland. Were you guys the serial killers?! WHY WAS THIS HAPPENING
Question 12:
For everybody:
Did any of you get paid?!
Question 13:
For Eric O'Cuinn:
Hey, what was your presentation gonna be?
And did you need an indoor or outdoor space? eric plz
Okay, I'm gonna quit tormenting everybody.
I know you're all actors, so even if you had something to say, you couldn't actually say anything, 'cause that'd make you look super rude.
but idk maybe there's a long-lost fan with a suspicious amount of knowledge on what went down who's got answers for me uwu
Anyway, hope you're doing well, and for the love of God please tell me if you have good copies of the series saved somewhere. The world wants its home release, and we're stuck with whatever we can put on YouTube.
